Dutch and Japanese Paintings Provenance

Walter Buhrmann, 1930 - 2016
Ingrid Buhrmann (Kleppers), 1942 - 2020

Walter worked at Nikon from the early 1970’s until 1992 when he retired.  He was the head of the Instrument Division in the United States and traveled frequently to Japan.  During these trips It was customary to exchange gifts with one’s business acquaintances and friends.  The current collection of Japanese drawings, prints and paintings are part of a collection of cherished gifts that he received and loved.  His boss in Japan was Mr. Moromisato who most likely gave most of this art to Walter.  Walter was born in Iserlohn, Germany and was a Holocaust survivor.

Ingrid collected Dutch Landscape paintings after she married Walter in 1978.  She loved the massive frames and impressionistic brush style of the early 1900’s and bought only paintings she loved.  After her mother’s passing in 2012, she brought home several additional paintings from Holland.  Ingrid was born in The Hague and moved to the United States when she was in her 20’s in search of better opportunities.

After Walter’s retirement, they moved from NY to Bonita Springs, FL.  Japanese and Dutch art were largely segregated by room.
