Jennings Tofel

This early 20th century graphite on paper swirled abstracted figure is by Polish-born New York Expressionist Jennings Tofel (1891-1959). Tofel was a friend of Georgia O'Keefe and Alfred Stieglitz. He received an art grant to work in Paris in the 1920s. His work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Tofel is known for his allegorical, Expressionist figurative scenes.

Signed lower left. Excellent vintage condition. Framed in a contemporary wood frame with a soft metallic gray finish using archival matting behind conservation clear glass.
