Reflections of Nature, Photography and Paintings
Mendocino, California (& Beyond)
My artistic inspiration comes primarily through the experience of nature.
I live in Mendocino, Northern California, mostly known for the quaint Victorian village by the same name and its spectacular organic wine valleys. It is also home to a stretch of beaches not accessible by road known as the Lost Coast with breathtaking vistas of the Pacific Ocean and myriads of coastal hills covered with magnificent Redwood, Oak, Madrone, Fir and Manzanita forests. My off-the-grid abode and art studio is nestled on the slope of one of those hills, hidden in a small heirloom orchard covered with blossoms and daffodils in the spring, dashes of snow here and there in the winter, bright orange foliage around Thanksgiving and lovely golden hills and blue sky in the summer.
I also have a passion for art history, especially modern art. My work expresses such influences through the hands-on experience of collecting the art of various 20th Century artists and visiting museums all over the world. I am one of the two founding members of Lost Art Salon in San Francisco, a gallery specializing in 20th Century Fine Art, through the present.
I studied Ceramic Art at L'École de Céramique Bonsecours in Montréal, Québec where I am originally from. But nowadays I mostly studio paint with oil on canvases and plein-air paint with water base mixed media on paper. I also carry with me at all times my invaluable camera and produces Fine Art digital nature photography. These mediums pair well with my life style and ability to notice, look and see the raw, the real and the beautiful. Photography and painting have proven to be my preferred modes of expressing my connection to the land and documenting its beauty.
The lengthy process of one medium coupled with the immediacy of the other strike the right balance for me. Oil paint applied to a canvas reminds me of the meditative nature of hand molding clay. Photography allows me to capture those unique moments when seasons are traveling through their cycles, setting the light in harmony with the time of the day. The graphic power of photography with its techniques of cropping, foreshortening and near abstraction gets incorporated into my painting. I use the camera to reinvigorate painting and in return, my photography is enriched by the dialogue with painting. Nothing pleases me more than mistaking my photographs as paintings.

- All photographs are archival prints on Hahnemuhle Fine Art Pearl paper. They are signed and titled and are available in six size formats (except when indicated otherwise).
- Photographs can be framed in one of three contemporary frames as shown in the photo entry using standard framing and archival white matting behind UV protected conservation clear glass.
