Jennings Tofel
This early to mid 20th century charcoal on paper surreal figure scene is by Polish-born New York Expressionist Jennings Tofel (1891-1959). Tofel was a friend of Georgia O'Keefe and Alfred Stieglitz. He received an art grant to work in Paris in the 1920s. His work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Tofel is known for his allegorical, Expressionist figurative scenes.

Estate stamped lower right. Good vintage condition with torn paper edges. Framed in a contemporary wood frame with ornate carvings and silver detail using museum-style archival matting with a black background behind conservation clear glass.
