This 1972 abstract portrait in graphite and pastel is by Abstract Surrealist San Francisco artist Michael di Cosola (1929-2010). Di Cosola studied at the Chicago Art Institute before moving to the Bay Area to study at the California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland. He had a studio in North Beach during the height of the neighborhood's art scene and exhibited at several Bay Area art galleries in the 1960s. Di Cosola is known for psychedelic, Surrealist portraiture and abstractions.
