This 1940-60s ink and wax crayon on paper board abstract is by painter and illustrator, Barbara Rogers Houseworth. Born in 1925 in Indianapolis, Indiana she received an education in Fine Arts from Indiana University from 1943-1946, and exhibited at the John Herron Art Museum in Indianapolis. A 1950’s Midwestern housewife, Barbara created her prolific body of work despite the pressures of domestic life and motherhood. In fact, these pressures became the subject matter of much of her work, and are stylistically reminiscent of both Surrealism and the Social Realist painting style.
