Geoffrey Clements

This photograph of a Jennings Tofel drawing was taken by Geoffrey Clements. Clements is an internationally known photographer of fine art works. He has photographed thousands of famous paintings in the Metropolitan Museum of Art, such as Rembrandt's "Aristotle Contemplating the Bust of Homer", works in the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Cooper-Hewitt Museum in New York, the Hirschorn
Collection in Washington, DC and the Mellon Collection in Pittsburgh. In addition he has photographed the works of many of the most famous 20th century artists such as Edward Hopper, Jasper Johns, Romeare Beardon and Helen Frankenthaler to name a few. Clements came to America from England in 1951, enlisted in the Marine Corps and became a combat photographer. After his stint in the USMC he began working for
studios that specialized in fine art photography and went out on his own. He retired in 2000 and came to Florida. At that time he donated over 60,000 negatives to the Smithsonian Institute in Washington along with
his journals and letters.
