Vahan Amadouni
This 1974 monotype and glossy ink on cardstock abstract is by the Armenian-American artist Vahan Amadouni (1933-1998). Amadouni was an Armenian-American abstract painter known for his use of broad, shiny black strokes, often created with specially built metal knives. Born in Aleppo, Syria, he moved to the United States after his family fled the Armenian Genocide and studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts. His work received critical acceptance in the U.S., Europe, and the Middle East, and he was commissioned to create art for the main altar of Our Lady of Pompei Church in New York City.
