Salon Hang

Select a group of pieces that are connected to each other through some combination of color, medium, art movement, subject matter or period. Pieces need to be different sizes. Medium to large pieces serve as an anchor for the tableau. Pieces can be centered or lined up above each other and next to each other. Spacing between pieces should be kept consistent to give the presentation an orderly aesthetic.

Paris Hang

Group a collection of uniquely framed artwork directly next to each other with the frames touching. The specialness of the frames and their various sizes are emphasized along a horizontal axis. This allows a display of multiple artworks in a small space.

Totem Hang

Group a collection of uniquely framed artwork directly on top of each other with the frames touching. The specialness of the frames and their various sizes are both emphasized along a vertical axis. A partial wall of floor to ceiling totem hang can create a dramatic effect and emphasize the height of a room.

Mosaic Hang

Fill ab architectural niche with pieces of various sizes and mediums and create a “mosaic” effect. Start with lining up the outside pieces for a consistent outer edge and then fill in the rest. Group pieces on the floor prior to hanging the group on the wall. This will make for a dramatic art wall.

Series Hang

Display a collection of pieces of the same size, hung with the same distance between them. This creates a line which can become a grid of pieces. Add as many rows as you like. You can also create a square.

Asymmetrical Hang

Group a combination of three pieces to achieve a balanced asymmetrical hang that allows for the paintings to have a dialogue with each other. For example, you may want two figures to look at each other or not. The two smaller pieces are usually stacked and centered on the larger piece.

Art & Mirror Hang

Combine a mirror with framed artwork to create a unique salon arrangement. Your reflection in the mirror becomes part of the display. A custom mirror can be made by having the reflective component removed from one area of the mirror where a work on paper can be displayed. The mirror becomes the mat of frame to the artwork.

Three Dimensional Objects Within a Hang

Objects can be hung to add a third dimension to any hang style. Try clocks, a beautiful frame, decorated plates, a sculpture on a small shelf, taxidermy, a license plate, a cool hat, a coat of arms, architectural elements, even natural objects such as a feather.

Art in Bookshelves

Include small paintings or drawings in a bookshelf within your collection of books. Set it off on a small easel or simply hang it on a nail. A special ceramic piece or sculpture can also create a beautiful break within a display of books.

Hang Off Ribbons, Ropes, Chains, Etc.

Add a special flair to any artwork by using a ribbon as a different way to hang a piece. For a nautical piece, a rope can be used. An industrial piece can be hung off a metal chain. If you don’t have a picture rail, a nail can be used to hang the ribbon, rope or chain.
