This 1960 oil on canvas portrait was painted by Bay-Area portrait artist, Edna Raney. Edna Raney (1907-1998) was a distinguished Bay Area painter recognized for her portraiture, landscapes, still lifes, and decorative interior-oriented works, as well as for her active role in the cultural and philanthropic life of the San Francisco Peninsula. She studied under David Park (a pivotal American painter and pioneer of the Bay Area Figurative Movement) at the San Francisco School of Fine Arts. Based in Belmont and later associated with San Mateo, Raney was active both socially and artistically from at least the early 1950s through the late 1970s.
