Jennings Tofel

This 1930s charcoal on paper surreal figure scene is by Polish-born New York Expressionist Jennings Tofel (1891-1959). Tofel was a friend of Georgia O'Keefe and Alfred Stieglitz. He received an art grant to work in Paris in the 1920s. His work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Tofel is known for his allegorical, Expressionist figurative scenes.

Signed lower right. Good vintage condition with torn paper edges. Framed in a contemporary walnut wood frame using 8-ply archival matting behind conservation clear glass.
