This monochrome lithograph of a barn is by Chicago painter and printmaker Michael L. Mason (1896-1963). Mason received his PhD in Anatomy from Northwestern University School of Medicine in 1924 and became an accomplished hand surgeon, pioneering the field of tendon recovery. He painted throughout his life and his printmaking was represented in each International Biennial Color Lithographic Exhibit from 1950-1956. Mason was related to painter Barbara Lewis and this collection of minimal watercolor abstracts, painted in the last year of his life, was acquired through her family's estate.
