This mid 20th century ink and gouache on paper abstract is by California artist Paul McCoy (1921-2005). An artist and writer, he studied at New York's Pratt Institute and Cornell University, where he graduated with a MA in Literature. In the late 1950s McCoy moved to Majorca, Spain. Following in the footsteps of the European Modernists Picasso and Cezanne, he studied the Mediterranean palette, painting local people and architecture. McCoy returned to California in the 1960s where he continued to paint coastal life with a European influence.
