This 1960s colorful forest scene in pastel is by New York/San Francisco Abstract Expressionist artist Gary Lee Shaffer (1936-2001). Shaffer trained with Hans Hofmann in the late 1950s and became an influential member of the Printmakers Workshop in Manhattan. His works are in the permanent collection of the Art Institute of Chicago and the Detroit Institute of Arts. Shaffer lived and worked in San Francisco and published his prints at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley, CA from the 1970s until his death in 2001.
