Carl Rahl

This May 1828 charcoal on paper study is signed and dated by the artist Carl Rahl (1812-1865). Rahl studied at The Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna, and later traveled to Munich, Stuttgart, Hungary, and Rome. Rahl’s style was deeply influenced by his studies in Rome, particularly in color and perspective. In 1850, he was appointed Professor at Academy of Fine Arts Vienna. This work was acquired within a collection of late 19th/early 20th century Austrian works on paper which included pieces by Klimt, Johannes Fischer, and Jan Toorop.

Signed and dated at the bottom. Good vintage condition, minor creases throughout. Framed in a restored vintage wood frame with ornate carvings and an antique white finish using archival matting behind conservation glass.
