Jennings Tofel

This early to mid 20th century ink wash on paper surreal figure scene is by Polish-born New York Expressionist Jennings Tofel (1891-1959). Tofel was a friend of Georgia O'Keefe and Alfred Stieglitz. He received an art grant to work in Paris in the 1920s. His work is in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian and the Whitney Museum of American Art. Tofel is known for his allegorical, Expressionist figurative scenes.

Signed on the lower left. Excellent vintage condition. Framed floating in a contemporary wood frame with a metallic face and walnut edges behind conservation clear glass.
