This 1940s-50s abstract landscape painting is by Vienna and San Francisco/Bay Area artist, Gustav Friedmann (1897-1982). Friedmann was educated at the German school Bauhaus. Students and staff included Kandinsky, Klee, Feininger and Moholy-Nagy. By 1946 Gustav Friedmann had moved to San Francisco and was a professor of art at the California Labor School. He is most known for his Abstract Expressionist paintings done in San Francisco.
