Entitled Mother Cloud and taken in Puna, Big Island, Hawaii this archival photo is from the Mère et mer series by contemporary Mendocino/Bay Area artist, Gaétan Caron (b. 1964), co-founder of Lost Art Salon in San Francisco. This series is inspired by Gaétan's relationship with his mother as it provided him softness and creativity in life metaphorically represented by the ebb and flow of the sea. Gaétan lives and works in his off-the-grid home located in an heirloom orchard in the Mendocino hills of Northern California, a stone's throw from the wild California Coast. His work documents the textures, colors, forms, as well as monochromatic shadows and reflections found in the natural world through contemporary abstract, botanical, still life, landscape, seascape, and Fine Art photography. A French speaking native of Québec, Canada, Gaétan returns back East regularly, traveling also across Europe, especially France, and to Hawaii for artistic inspiration. His favorite tropical island in Hawaii is the Big Island where Gaétan likes to go once a year in the winter to get his fill of the fire, air, water and earth energy he recognizes as particularly powerful for his art.
